This is part of a class of graduate students in the FSU Department of Geography’s GIS program that is taught by Mr. George Cole. They are displaying the instruments loaned by NCG. The class is on surveying methods and includes cadastral systems, geodesy, and measurement processes and some hands on field work. As part of the class, Fred Bermudez always gives a hands-on demo on terrestrial-based scanning each year. There are hopes to also include a field exercise in hydrography this year if Fred and George can get the fathometer going.

Those in the FSU Department of Geography’s GIS program draw on both spatial and human-environment traditions to explain the rapidly changing world and develop relevant interventions. Common to their work are underlying concerns for sustainability and interdisciplinary thinking that combines social, ecological, physical, and economic knowledge. They apply a wide array of conceptual perspectives and methodological techniques to address problems of significant societal importance.
